Scholarships is another story. Let's cut to the chase. Since a full ride scholarship could be worth around $250,000 and if your high school coach is going to help then don't be embarrassed to ask the coach, "What college basketball coaches do you know on a first name basis?"

We are not trying to put any high school or club coach on the spot but you need to exactly what the possibilities are. Now, not when it's closer to signing day. In your high school or club coach's defense, their job is to make you a better basketball athlete so you can achieve the next level in basketball. Most have families they want to spend time with. Most have a main job like teaching. After their job, family and coaching there is not much time left to spend much time helping athletes you get a basketball scholarship or all the others on your team.

It is in the basketball college coaches best interest to always look for better talent and fit, if found someone else on their position planning board (PPB) will get bumped down or completely off.

If you were a basketball coach you wouldn't care where your talent came from. Yes, you would look at athletes referred by your friend but since your job requires you to be a winning basketball coach you will have to pick the best athlete and your friends referral may not make the cut.

Athletes, cover all your bases, athletically and academically. Parents, you can be a big help now.
