What’s the best way to get a football scholarship?

The best way to get a football scholarship is for you to promote yourself to as many coaches as possible. No matter what your talent level is, if enough coaches see your talent you stand a chance of getting recruited. Somewhere some coach needs the very talent you have to offer but if he doesn’t know you exist he can't offer you a scholarship.

Important things to remember about football scholarships:

Football is a head count sport in NCAA D1, which means all scholarships are full scholarships. In all other divisions, football is considered an equivalency sport, which means that coaches can divide the value of the total scholarships allotted to them between as many players as they see fit.

Number of scholarships offered per team, per year, by Division:

NCAA D1: 85

NCAA D1AA: 63

NCAA D2: 36

NAIA: 24

NJCAA: 85

Number of College Football Programs

NCAA D1: 245

NCAA D2: 148

*NCAA D3: 237

NAIA: 91

NJCAA: 138

Total: 859

*NCAA Division 3 schools do not offer athletic scholarships, but do offer other forms of financial aid.
