How long does it take to be cleared by the NCAA or NAIA?
At the NAIA final determination of eligibility doesn’t happen until your final high school transcript is received. However, the NAIA does not require a student-athlete to be cleared for eligibility prior to a school making you an offer. The exception to this rule is if you meet their early eligibility requirements, which is a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale, 18 on the ACT and 860 on the SAT.
The NCAA Initial-Eligibility Clearinghouse has it’s own set of standards that must be met before being cleared to play at the Division I and II levels. Most student-athletes that have enrolled in the NCAA process will finalize their information at NCAA 3-4 months before enrolling in a college by ensuring that the NCAA has received their transcripts and testing scores. At that point, interested college coaches must put you on an Institutional Request list, which initiates the final certification of your status as an NCAA qualifier.
